Kays Bar

The nearest we get to a European street cafe.  Only a couple of metres from Mangalore's deadliest road.  They have refurbished the place recently but until they did, when there was no toilet deemed suitable for Em, the manager used to kindly open up his brothers suitcase shop next door for her instead.  They have the best raja special in town and sell Fosters lager which makes a change from KF but is nothing (apart from the label) like the Fosters we know.

Dolphin

The rooftop bar is nearly always lively with more customers than staff (highly unusual).  Its close to our new house and they serve pork (mainly fat rather than meat mind)

*Lawnsway Bar/Restaurant

This was our local. It's an old Colonial building. It has the only lawn in Mangalore. It's very cheap and great for outdoor drinking but don't order mutton biryani cos you only get mutton bones. Unless you like bone curry of course. Best for fish.

Green Park

There's a trend among the women-friendly bars to have each table in its own separate cubicle and Green Park is one of the better style.  The worst ones have cubicles made of metal doors and walls with prison style guard hatches which the waiters are continually opening to stare at you.  Green Park is all rattan blinds and each cubicle has its own controls for music,(always Hindi film music), fans and a call light to summon the waiter.  It can be costly though and if you don't get the fish prices before you eat it you're guaranteed a fleecing.
