The Tile Factory
Mangalore is famous for three things, cashew nuts, fish curry and tiles.  The local soil is a vibrant red clay which makes for fantastic scenery and very nice and cheap terracotta tiles.  Our friend Mr Ramesh took us to his friend's Tile Factory the other day.  It was very interesting and of course everything was done by hand. At 4 rupees per tile, we worked out we could buy enough tiles to do our straw house roof for 230 pounds, but that it would cost over a grand to ship them home.
