Dave went to the mechanics one day and there was a stray kitten lying by the kerb in the sun in the middle of the heatwave when there was no water for her to drink, no food and no cool places to shelter. She was a tiny bag of bones and no-one wanted her. He couldn't leave her and the mechanic, Ravi, who charges 20 rupees (26p) to come round to our house and fix our punctures picked her up by the ear and threw her in Dave's rucksack. A bit of chicken tikka, some warm milk and affection later she made an astounding recovery and now lives with us. She's called Duddha Mukkha Hooli, which means Big Face Tiger in Kannada, one of the local languages. But we just call her Hooli (Tiger) for short. |
