Ravi's Wedding

Back to India Home

Our friend and mechanic got married recently in a double ceremony with his sister.  It was a lunchtime Hindu wedding with, like all Indian weddings, far too many people for the venue, far too much food for the people and far too much wailing music. It was of course an arranged marriage. At least the brides took part in it and men and women were allowed in the same room unlike the Muslim wedding we went to a few months back.

We were treated fantastically as usual and were forced to the stage to be the first to congratulate the newlyweds and then to the front of the queue for the buffet which was all typical Mangalorean fayre.

New Section:

The ceremony involves lots of incense burning and throwing rice onto a fire

None of the guests take the slightest bit of notice of the ceremony on the stage and just chatter among themselves throughout
